Why San Diego Homeowners Choose Lennox Air Duct Cleaning
Kestrel Air Duct San Diego provides independent Lennox air duct cleaning, sealing, and repair service for homeowners throughout San Diego County, from Clairemont to Rancho Bernardo, with dedicated San Diego Lennox service. We’re not a Lennox dealer or factory-authorized contractor. What we are is a local crew that works on Lennox systems daily and understands how their variable-speed blowers, iComfort controls, and modulating gas valves respond to dirty, leaky ductwork. Most homes run between $450 and $900 for a full Lennox duct cleaning and sealing job, depending on system size and the number of flex duct sections needing repair. Call (619) 695-0424 and we’ll put a written price in your hands before any work begins.
That price is the number you pay. Not an estimate that changes when the van pulls up. The Kingswell Guarantee, which has backed every job since 2004, puts that promise in writing on every single work order. If the cleaning falls short within 365 days, we return and make it right at no charge. Dale Whitmore, our owner, built the company around the straightforward idea that ductwork should be cleaned with negative-air extraction, documented with before-and-after photos, and priced in plain numbers. Clean ducts aren’t exciting – until you realize how much air your family breathes through them every day.
Why Trust Kestrel Air Duct San Diego for Your Lennox Air Duct Cleaning?
Lennox systems are particular creatures. The Signature Collection’s SLP99V modulating furnace, for example, adjusts its gas valve and blower speed in tiny increments to hold a precise indoor temperature. When the ductwork behind that furnace is dirty or leaking, the blower ramps up against resistance it wasn’t designed to fight. Static pressure climbs. The modulating gas valve never settles into low fire. The system burns more fuel while delivering less comfort. A generic duct cleaning crew will poke around with a shop vac and call it done. We measure and we document.
Dale Whitmore learned this trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and spent the better part of two decades doing duct work across Southern California before founding Kestrel. He has serviced El Cajon Lennox service calls and equipment throughout San Diego long enough to know that a Clairemont ranch house built in 1963 carries different duct problems than a Santee tract home from 1994. Coastal salt air eats at flex duct connections. Inland heat bakes and cracks old mastic. Our technicians train specifically on the failure modes Lennox systems exhibit in this county’s microclimates. We use Rotobrush rotary brush systems to dislodge debris at the duct wall, Nikro negative-pressure units to pull contaminants out, and Abatement Technologies HEPA filtration to keep loosened particles out of your living space while we work. Every technician is background-checked and uniformed, and every job follows the Kingswell Way: say the price, show up in the window we gave, leave the place cleaner, put the guarantee in writing, come back if it fails.

Common Lennox Air Duct Cleaning Problems We Fix in San Diego
- Dust and debris accumulation around variable-speed blower motors. Lennox’s high-MERV filtration systems, especially the HC16 media cabinet, are excellent at trapping particles. But that dense filter media restricts return airflow. When returns are undersized or the filter hasn’t been changed on schedule, the variable-speed blower on systems like the EL296V or SLP99V pulls harder. Dust settles on the blower wheel, imbalances it, and creates a hum you can hear through the return grille. We clean the blower assembly and verify the return side can actually breathe.
- Flex duct sag and tears from coastal humidity. The marine layer that rolls through San Diego’s coastal neighborhoods every May and June doesn’t just gray out the sky. It puts moisture into attics where Lennox air handlers sit. Original flexible ducts from the 1980s and 1990s lose their outer jacket, the inner liner tears, and conditioned air escapes into the attic. We find this constantly in neighborhoods like Mira Mesa and Clairemont, where attic temperatures swing wildly and the duct jacket just gives up.
- Evaporator coil dirt loading from bypass air. Lennox uses all-aluminum coils on most current equipment, including the Elite and Merit lines. They resist corrosion better than old copper-and-steel coils. But they still collect dirt. When a return leak pulls unfiltered air around the media cabinet, that bypass air carries dust straight to the coil. A loaded coil reduces sensible cooling capacity and makes the system run longer to hit the thermostat setpoint. Cleaning the coil is part of our Lennox service when bypass air has been the culprit.
- Condenser fin blockage near marine environments. Homes within a mile or two of the coast get a steady dose of salt spray. Lennox condensers like the XC21 or ML14XC1 have tightly spaced fins for efficiency. Salt and airborne sand pack into those fins, blocking heat rejection. The compressor runs hotter, head pressure climbs, and efficiency falls. We clean condenser fins during duct service calls so the whole system works as one unit, not two disconnected halves.
- Crushed or disconnected flex in slab-on-grade homes. Clairemont’s original 1960s tract homes often run ducts through the slab or through cramped attics. After decades of salt air corrosion and a few rodent intrusions from nearby canyons, flex ducts collapse. Homeowners only notice when one bedroom suddenly stops cooling while the rest of the house feels fine. If the flex is over 10 years old, we nearly always recommend replacing the crushed section with R-8 insulated flex rather than patching it. A patch on old flex is a temporary fix that fails again, usually within a season.
Lennox Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
We use OEM Lennox filters and UV bulbs when warranty preservation matters, and any quality aftermarket flex duct, mastic, and insulation when it doesn’t. Here’s the honest breakdown. A Lennox PureAir air purification system or an iComfort thermostat should run on genuine Lennox components. The warranty language is specific, and we won’t jeopardize it. But a section of 12-inch flex duct? R-8 insulated flex from a reputable manufacturer performs identically whether it carries a Lennox label or not, and it doesn’t affect your equipment warranty. We’re transparent about which parts we’re using and why. The decision to repair or replace comes down to one question: what would we put in our own house? Crushed flex over 10 years old gets replaced. A loose takeoff with intact flex gets sealed with mastic. A coil that’s been neglected for 15 years gets a careful cleaning, not a sales pitch for a new system. If you’d like a specific parts quote before we start, call (619) 695-0424 and we’ll walk through it with you.
Our Lennox Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis. We inspect the full duct network, measure static pressure when the symptom suggests it, and use a duct tester when leakage is suspected. On a recent Lennox SLP99V in Rancho Bernardo, the homeowner complained of weak airflow upstairs. We found a crushed 12-inch flex return branch and a 24 percent duct leakage rate. The diagnosis came before the fix, not after.
- 2
Repair and cleaning. We replace damaged flex sections, seal takeoffs and plenum connections with mastic, clean the evaporator coil when indicated, and run our Rotobrush and Nikro equipment through the ducts. Negative air extraction pulls debris out rather than pushing it into the living space.
- 3
System test. We verify airflow at each register, recheck static pressure when we’ve made duct repairs, and confirm the Lennox controls are responding correctly. On that Rancho Bernardo job, static pressure dropped by 0.31 inches w.c., and the modulating gas valve began holding low fire properly. That’s the difference between cleaning ducts and fixing a system.
- 4
Documentation and warranty. You receive before-and-after photos of your own ductwork, a written report of what we found and what we did, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the work falls short within that year, we return at no charge. No fine print, no phone-tree runaround.

AfterLennox Products We Service & Install in San Diego
Our technicians work on Lennox furnaces, air handlers, heat pumps, and air conditioners across the model range. That includes the Signature Collection SLP99V modulating furnace and XC25/XC21 variable-capacity condensers, the Elite Series EL296V and EL18XCV, and the Merit Series ML196E and ML14XC1. We also service and install the Lennox Healthy Climate line, including the HC16 media filter cabinet and PureAir purification system. We stock common flex duct sizes, mastic, sealants, and media filters locally for fast turnaround. When a job requires a specific Lennox part, we order it and tell you exactly when it arrives and when we’ll be back to install it.
We Also Service These Brands
Most of our San Diego customers, including those needing Lennox in Chula Vista, own a mix of equipment. We service Trane and Carrier systems with the same diagnostic rigor we bring to Lennox work. The ductwork physics don’t change based on the badge on the condenser. Static pressure, leakage, and coil fouling affect every system, regardless of manufacturer. So yes, we’ll clean the ducts behind your Carrier Infinity just as carefully as the ones behind your Lennox Signature.
FAQs – Lennox Air Duct Cleaning Service in San Diego
No, we are an independent Lennox service provider, not a factory-authorized dealer. That means we don’t have a manufacturer’s quota to hit or a sales script to follow. What we have is direct experience with Lennox equipment across San Diego’s housing stock and a written guarantee that has to go on every work order. Independent means we answer to you, not to a distributor’s sales targets.
We use OEM Lennox filters and UV bulbs when your warranty requires them, and quality aftermarket flex duct, mastic, and insulation when it doesn’t. The distinction matters. A genuine Lennox filter keeps your HC16 warranty intact. An aftermarket section of R-8 flex duct performs identically to branded flex and doesn’t touch your equipment warranty. We’ll tell you which is which before we install anything.
A standard duct cleaning on a typical San Diego Lennox system takes 4 to 6 hours. If we’re also sealing ductwork, replacing flex sections, or cleaning an evaporator coil, the job may stretch to a full day. We give you a written arrival window before the visit and we hold it. You’ll know when we’re coming and what the total will be before we ring the doorbell. Call (619) 695-0424 for a specific time estimate on your system.
We service the Signature Collection (SLP99V, XC25, XC21), Elite Series (EL296V, EL18XCV), Merit Series (ML196E, ML14XC1), and the Healthy Climate line including HC16 and PureAir. If you’re not sure which series you have, the model number is on a data plate inside the furnace cabinet or on the outside condenser unit. Read it to us over the phone and we’ll tell you exactly what you’re working with.
No, duct cleaning and sealing will not void your Lennox equipment warranty. Ductwork is not a Lennox-manufactured component. Using OEM filters and bulbs where the warranty specifies them protects your coverage, and we follow those specifications. We’ve done this long enough to know where the warranty line is, and we stay on the right side of it.
Most San Diego Lennox homes run between $450 and $900 for a full duct cleaning, depending on system size, the number of vents, and how much flex duct repair is needed. Sealing and coil cleaning add to the total when those services are indicated. We’ve never charged a per-vent price and never will. One flat price per system, agreed before we start, in writing. Call (619) 695-0424 for a free estimate on your Lennox system.
The denser filter media in a high-MERV filter, like Lennox’s HC16, restricts return airflow. Your variable-speed blower compensates by ramping up to maintain airflow, and that increased speed creates more noise. If the return ductwork is undersized or partially collapsed, the blower works even harder. We’ve measured static pressure on systems where a high-MERV filter added 0.2 inches w.c. or more. The fix may be as simple as cleaning the return side or as involved as replacing a crushed return branch.
If you adjust your zone dampers and still feel weak airflow in one zone, the problem is probably not the dampers. It’s duct leakage or blockage. Zoned Lennox systems are sensitive to duct pressure. A leaky duct in one zone steals air from the others. Before you spend money on new dampers or a zone board, have the ductwork inspected and tested. We measure leakage with a duct tester and show you the numbers.
Yes, and this is one of the more satisfying fixes we do. iComfort runtime reports track how long your system runs to maintain setpoint. Leaky ducts mean the system runs longer because conditioned air is escaping into the attic or crawl space. After we seal the ductwork, runtime drops, static pressure normalizes, and the reports show a system that’s not working overtime. It’s a measurable change, not a vague improvement.
It’s not required, but it’s smart. PureAir uses a photocatalytic oxidation process and a MERV 16 filter to clean the air passing through it. If your ducts are carrying decades of dust, mold spores, and rodent debris into the system, the PureAir is fighting upstream. Clean the ducts first with our Air Duct Cleaning services, then install the purification system. The filter and the PCO lamp work far more efficiently when the air entering them isn’t already loaded with particulates.
The HC16 captures particles down to 0.01 microns at a MERV 16 rating, which is excellent filtration. But if your return side leaks or your supply ducts have tears, unfiltered air bypasses the HC16 entirely. Dust from the attic gets pulled in through return leaks or blown in through supply side gaps and lands on your furniture. The filter is doing its job. The ductwork isn’t. We find and seal those leaks so the filter actually filters all the air moving through your system.
